I N T R O
Wild swimming has become increasingly popular in recent years with its many health benefits including decreased anxiety and better circulation, but one of the most exciting parts of the wild swimming culture for me in the adventure that comes with it. The thrill of finding beautiful natural pools to immerse yourself in is truly thrilling.
Aguas verdes
Located in the quieter west region of Bentancuria sits a beautiful little hidden collection of rock pools called Aguas Verdes aka Green waters. The pools are a perfect example of the many unspoilt natural natural wonders found in the Canary Islands. There are approximately six kilometres of pools dotted along the coastline. Many of which are hidden away so you have to hike to find them. The area itself is not as well-known or touristy as other parts of Fuerteventura, which gives it an off-the-beaten-path appeal for those seeking a more relaxed and authentic experience.

The main set of pools are located to the right, next to the beach but be warned its a very rocky climb to get across to and be dangerous even in the best of conditions. Primarily baron, with some rural homes and small agricultural areas, making it a great spot for exploring the natural beauty of Fuerteventura. Its location offers easy access to some of the island's best-known beaches, including those near the village of El Cotillo, which is just a short drive away.

It is always recommended to go during low tide when the winds are down. If you'd prefer something all to yourself then a short 10 minute hike towards the left (north) you'll come across a series of beautiful turquoise pools that rarely have any people.

How to get there
You will need a car to get down to this point of the island, there are no buses that go this way and it will take approximately 30-40 minutes from Corralejo to get there. The drive is smooth and quiet and you will see a lot of the pretty rural areas of the island along the way. You need to head in the direction of Bentancuria to Barranco de valle or as its labelled on the map as Urbanizacion Aguas Verdes. Once you reach the coast there's a few gravel roads which will lead you closer to the beach with plenty of places for you to pull in and park. From that point the main pools are to the right and the trail or smaller quieter are along to the left.
